The CDAP (Canadian Digital Adoption Program) grant offered by the Government of Canada to help businesses carry out a digital transformation is indeed available! The grant is divided into 2 parts:

  • Grow Your Business Online;
  • Boost Your Business Technology.

Each component offers its own subsidy depending on the solutions chosen. Below, we will find all the details necessary to obtain the grant.

Grow Your Business Online

This grant gives you access to an amount of up to $2,400 for the implementation of e-commerce for your business. Obviously, there are certain eligibility rules as well as details on the costs covered that we will analyze.

CDAP Grant Eligibility

In order to benefit from financing, you must ensure that your business:

  • Sells goods directly to the consumer;
  • Has at least one employee other than the owner OR had at least $30,000 in annual income during the most recent tax year;

There are other restrictions, but generally speaking, if you meet these 2 prerequisites, you will need to be approved.

Costs covered by the CDAP grant

Once approved to receive the grant, you will obviously have to use them to implement an e-commerce solution. You can't use it for anything else. Here are some examples where you can use the grant:

  • Create a new e-commerce website (redesigning an existing site is not eligible);
  • Add online ordering or reservation tools to your existing site;
  • Search engine optimization;
  • Install an e-commerce platform (including subscription fees and costs);
  • Hire a consultant to help you develop marketing strategies (e.g.: advertising on social networks);
  • Inventory management system;
  • Loyalty program;
  • Strengthen cybersecurity using e-commerce software;
  • Reimburse up to 20% of the total cost of software and hardware.

For all these eligible expenses, they must be directly related to the sale of goods and services online, otherwise the subsidy may not be awarded.

Boost Your Business Technology

This component gives you access to different grants:

  • Grant of up to $15,000 to develop a digital adoption plan;
  • Interest-free loan of up to $100,000 for the implementation of the digital adoption plan;
  • Grant of up to $7,300 to hire a qualified young person to implement the technologies.

As with the other component, there are obviously certain restrictions to access the subsidy.

CDAP Grant Eligibility

You must meet the following criteria in order to be eligible for the grants provided in this component:

  • Be a company with between 1 and 499 employees;
  • Have income of at least $500,000 during one of the 3 previous tax years;
  • Not having had income greater than $100,000,000 during one of the 3 previous tax years;
  • Have confirmed your eligibility on the PCAN portal using your Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) credentials.

These are the main guidelines to follow. If you want, you can also consult the CDAP program guide which includes all the details on the eligibility criteria.

How to get the CDAP grant

Unlike the first part where the grant can be used to install tools, in this case the grant is more limited in its use. In order to obtain the grant, you must follow the following steps:

  • Submit an application to obtain the CDAP grant;
  • Contact Numérique.ca (or another official advisor) to discuss your digital transformation project;
  • Obtain an assessment for the development of the digital adoption plan and sign it;
  • Pay the bill for creating the digital adoption plan;
  • Wait for the plan to be completed by Numérique.ca (we are usually talking about a few weeks of work);
  • Send the plan and initial invoice to the government via the portal;
  • Receive within the following 30 days reimbursement of 90% of the costs for creating the digital adoption plan.

Once the adoption plan is completed, you can subsequently obtain an interest-free loan of up to $100,000 for the implementation of the plan's solutions within 6 months after obtaining the subsidy. As for the wage subsidy part to hire a young person, you must apply for an internship on the PCAN portal. You can view all the details by visiting the Canadian Digital Adoption Program (CDAP) page on the Government of Canada website.Unfortunately, it is strictly forbidden for us to submit a request on your behalf, so you'll have to submit your request by yourselves.
